Abstract

This study aimed to investigate and improve the digital accessibility of the NUPI (Núcleo de Políticas Inclusivas) Service system at the Federal University of Recôncavo da Bahia (UFRB), with a focus on creating a more inclusive environment for people with disabilities. Using an action research approach, interventions were carried out based on international accessibility guidelines, such as WCAG 2.1, aiming to correct accessibility barriers in the system. The improvements implemented, such as the addition of accessible descriptions, alternative texts and optimization of keyboard navigation, resulted in a significant reduction in issues, with emphasis on the Modal Edit User and Modal Create User pages. Quantitative analysis, using the Ax DevTools tool, showed a 55% reduction in accessibility problems, especially benefiting users with visual impairments. Although there have been considerable advances, some issues, such as contrast and visibility, still require future adjustments. The interventions not only improved accessibility, but also strengthened digital inclusion in the UFRB academic community, reinforcing the university’s commitment to promoting diversity. By adopting practices based on concrete data and systematic approaches, NUPI Services positions itself as a model of good practices in digital accessibility, serving as a reference for other educational institutions.
