LIVING IN THE FACE OF URGENCY OR THE URGENCY OF LIVING
Experiences of Young Feminist Musicians during the Pandemic in Mexico
Keywords:
GENERO, JUVENTUD FEMINISMOS PRACTICA MUSICAL Y PANDEMIAAbstract
The pandemic caused by Covid-19 generated a series of emotions such as fear and hopelessnessthat marked the experiences of many young musicians and feminists in Mexico,
especially at the time when the confinement caused by the first wave occurred.
The text is divided into three moments: the first focuses on what the pandemic and confinement meant for young feminist musicians,
as well as the emotions it unleashed in their political practice;
A second moment focuses on making visible the job insecurity associated with music and the effects
on their economic income and/or artistic practice;
Finally, the third moment explains some of the creative economy strategies that the musicians
developed through the use of technology at the time of confinement,
as well as the collective practices that they managed to carry out in a politicized way with other feminist musicians.
It is important to mention that the methodological basis of this work are interviews and informal talks carried out with young musicians (instrumentalists and singer-songwriters),
mainly at the time of confinement (June, 2020) in Mexico, so all of them were carried out through the platform zoom.
