ANALYSIS OF COHESION MECHANISMS IN THE ENEM 2023 ESSAYS

participants who achieved the highest marks. In terms of objective, this is a descriptive study, in terms of approach, it is classified as a qualitative study and, in terms of procedure, it is a documentary study. The research sample consists of three ENEM 2023 grade 1 essays, selected from the Participant's Booklet to analyse Competency IV of the ENEM reference matrix. The research showed that textual cohesion mechanisms, especially those of a sequential and referential nature, are used effectively in ENEM's 1000 grade essays, ensuring fluidity, clarity and thematic progression. The analyses showed the authors' linguistic-discursive mastery in organising ideas and structuring arguments. The conclusion is that the effective use of these mechanisms is a differentiator in high-performance essays. For future research, we propose comparative analyses with average grade texts and investigations into related pedagogical practices.
