O APARTAMENTO E A ACADEMIA NA OBRA E ADAPTAÇÃO CINEMATOGRÁFICA DE A CANTIGA DOS PÁSSAROS E DAS SERPENTES (2020/2023)

Abstract

In the 2000s, dystopian literature made a comeback through 'The Hunger Games' trilogy (2008) and its highly successful film adaptations. Ten years after the last book in the trilogy, 'The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes' (2020) was released as a spin-off featuring Coriolanus Snow as the main character, and like the other books, it was adapted into a film in 2023. This study aims to conduct a comparative analysis between the descriptions of space in the literary work 'The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes' (2020) and to identify which resources were used for its representation in the film adaptation of the same name (2023). Furthermore, it seeks to understand how feelings and emotions were evoked or intensified through these resources. For the construction of this article, the theory of 'topoanalysis' was used, represented here by authors Bachelard (2008) and Borges Filho (2007), who guided the analysis of two spaces – the apartment and the Academy – emphasizing their descriptive and representative aspects in both works, relating them. It is concluded that the representations of space in the film adaptation utilize resources such as set composition, camera movement, and lighting to highlight or intensify the characters' feelings.
