This paper reflects on the theoretical construct of masses and the conception of mass man as founding and structural in the understanding of Nazi and Stalinist totalitarianism, present in the work Origins of Totalitarianism (ARENDT, 1989) by Hannah Arendt. It is concluded that totalitarianism is a mass organization, which has specific characteristics and that the masses are manipulated from certain specific aspects of totalitarian movements. What is mass man is analyzed and how such a conception is fundamental to understand other important concepts of the political thinker. Thus, from the reflections developed here, it becomes possible to increase new perspectives in the analysis of concepts such as totalitarianism, banality of evil, politics, power, violence, widely studied and debated not only in philosophy, but also in social sciences, political sciences, psychology, organization studies and business administration sciences. The reflections proposed here also make it possible to make parallels with the current reality, taking into account, obviously, the care to avoid analytical anachronisms.
