RECET adopts Creative Commons CC BY 4.0 license to expand open science
The Revista Eletrônica de Ciências Exatas e Tecnológicas (RECET) has adopted the Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY 4.0) license, replacing the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0) license.
This change represents a significant step forward in strengthening Open Science practices and reinforces RECET’s commitment to the broad dissemination of scientific knowledge produced by the academic community.
The CC BY 4.0 license allows published works to be shared, distributed, reused, and adapted by third parties—even for commercial purposes—provided that appropriate credit is given to the authors and the original publication. In contrast, the previously used license (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0) restricted commercial use and prohibited the creation of derivative works, thereby limiting the potential for the circulation, translation, adaptation, and repurposing of scientific content.
The adoption of CC BY 4.0 is currently considered the license most closely aligned with international open-access principles and is recommended by various initiatives and organizations dedicated to scholarly communication. Beyond increasing the visibility and potential impact of published research, this change facilitates the interoperability of content across different platforms, repositories, and scientific information systems.
Furthermore, the use of the CC BY 4.0 license is an increasingly common requirement within the evaluation and indexing criteria adopted by major national and international databases, directories, and indexing services.
Compliance with these requirements contributes to strengthening the editorial quality of UFRB’s journals and enhances their opportunities for inclusion and continued presence in indexing systems recognized by the scientific community.
With this update, RECET reaffirms its commitment to democratizing access to knowledge, ensuring transparency in scientific communication, and fostering an academic ecosystem that is more collaborative, accessible, and aligned with international best practices for open-access publishing.
More information about the CC BY 4.0 license: it ensures that authors retain their copyright while allowing for the broader dissemination of the knowledge produced, thereby boosting scientific collaboration, innovation, and the social impact of published research.
