Abstract

Victorious in the 1950 presidential election, Getúlio Vargas was concerned about the populating of the national territory and with the immigration policy that was to be implemented by the government, because the migratory flow increased after World War II. This article deals with the political activity exercised by Vargas shortly after the end of Estado Novo and with the creation of the National Institute of Immigration and Colonization and the Colonization Portfolio of Banco do Brasil.
