Antinomy and history: a reading according to the thought of Roberto Esposito

Abstract

This paper aims to understand the concepts of antinomy and history based on the thought of Roberto Esposito. The theme is explored in light of the antinomic dimension of history and its relationship with politics. The theoretical foundation is based on texts by Roberto Esposito. The research question that guides this study is: How does Roberto Esposito articulate the relationship between antinomy and history in his conceptual-methodological lexicon? The general objective is to understand this problematic, articulated through the following specific objectives: (1) to identify the conceptual formulation of antinomy in Roberto Esposito’s thought; (2) to analyze the concept of history in Esposito’s work; and (3) to discuss the articulation between antinomy and history in the political lexicon developed by Esposito. The methodology employed is bibliographical research, based on the following books: Categories of the Impolitical (1988) and Living Thought: The Origins and Actuality of Italian Philosophy (2010). Finally, history, in its antinomic dimension, reveals the existence of antagonists and protagonists; however, protagonism should not be reduced to a mere critical tool, as this would result in a reductionism of history, facts, and actions.
