Félix Guattari, schizoanalysis and cinema

Abstract

The aim of this article is to present the relationships that Félix Guattari forged with cinema. The aim is to investigate both the way in which he conceived the main themes and tools of his thought, especially schizoanalysis, based on cinema, and, in this movement, to offer us a conception for thinking about cinema itself. To this end, we will focus specifically on the productions of the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. We start from the hypothesis that schizoanalysis, proposed in the 1970s, is configured as a resumption or re-singularization of another analytical and political proposal called institutional analysis, developed in turn in previous years. We will then also observe how cinema acts directly in this passage. We will therefore focus on the analysis of the books Psychoanalysis and transversality: essays on institutional analysis, the first volume of Capitalism and schizophrenia Anti-Oedipus and Kafka: toward a minor literature, both written with Gilles Deleuze and, finally, the first edition of La révolution moléculaire.
