Abstract

In the Newtonian theology the first existent being is God. Newton considers Him the creator intelligence and maintainer of the universe, but not its soul. Therefore, by inference, space too is a result of such a divine existence not as one of God's creations, but rather as His emanation. For that reason I argue that Newton used the word emanation in the same sense Plotinus had first used it and not as synonym for creation, nor for inference, as some theologians defended in the XVIII century.
