Este artigo analisa o conto Three dreams in a desert (Três sonhos em um deserto) publicado pela escritora sul-africana Olive Schreiner em 1887, conectando-o aos ideais de libertação feminina e progresso social fundamentais à obra de Schreiner. O conto aborda a história da opressão sexista e o desejo de libertação das mulheres por meio de sonhos que a pessoa narradora tem ao dormir no deserto; é um conto notável por usar do ato de sonhar como moldura para a representação da luta social feminina em três formas pictóricas distintas, e por usar o espaço natural africano como cenário alegórico como materialização do ideal.
